About this wallet

One of Indonesia's two national wallets, built into Gojek's ride-hailing, delivery and courier services and accepted across the national QRIS network — the most practical payment tool for living in or visiting Indonesia.

!Not a bank. GoPay is a Bank Indonesia-licensed e-money issuer. Balances are electronic money, not bank deposits, and are not insured by the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS).

Can foreigners or tourists open it?

Yes — one of the most foreigner-friendly wallets in Indonesia. You need an Indonesian mobile number (buy a local SIM) and Gojek's official help centre states that foreign nationals can upgrade GoPay with a passport. Short-stay travellers without full KYC have low limits (commonly around IDR 5 million per month); verifying with a passport or KITAS raises them. Foreign cards cannot be linked, so reloads are mainly cash or local bank transfer.

Advantages

  • Foreigners can upgrade with a passport — a lower barrier than OVO or DANA
  • QRIS is accepted nationwide, from street stalls to chain stores
  • Convenience-store cash reloads are everywhere, so no bank account needed

Limitations

  • An Indonesian phone number is mandatory
  • Foreign cards cannot be linked; reloads rely on cash or local transfers
  • Without full KYC the monthly limit is low (around IDR 5,000,000)
